Annette Teijeiro, M.D. | Proven Leadership Experience we can count on. Commitment we can trust. |
Annette Teijeiro understands something about Nevada families and the daily challenges they face. As a medical doctor, she hears their stories every day. |
Their stories also mirror the stories that Annette's mother and father used to share with her. Before they moved to Las Vegas 42 years ago, they faced similar challenges as Latino immigrants who had endured many years without the opportunities afforded to most Americans. Undeterred, Annette learned at a very young age that commitment, education, and a sense of self-worth can changes lives. |
While working as a translator for a law firm (starting at 16), she graduated with honors from Bishop Gorman High School. But rather than attend school out of state like many of her peers, Annette enrolled in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), was selected Miss Nevada United Teenager that same year, and became a teaching assistant. Upon graduation, she entered the University of Nevada School of Medicine to become a physician. | "Annette Teijeiro never hides from a challenge, but rather runs to them because she knows it will make a difference in the lives that she has sworn to protect." |
Annette knew she wanted to be a doctor. She made the decision when she was an athletic trainer for the high school athletic department and understood the value of public service as a volunteer crisis translator for the victims of the tragic fire that engulfed the MGM Grand Hotel in 1980. After days of tireless work, she knew the career she chose would require helping people. |
Although Annette had to leave Nevada for specialty training in anesthesiology at the University of Washington, Seattle, she always knew she would return home to Nevada. After receiving commendations while attending school and publishing her first paper in the Journal of Anesthesiology, she did return to open a successful private practice and become deeply involved within the community she loved. |
Since 1996, Annette has not only distinguished herself in the medical profession, but also within the fields of education and legislation. She has been recognized for countless contributions to her community, state, and country. |
In addition to raising three children with her husband of 27 years, Annette still finds time to serve her community outside of the medical profession. Her activities have ranged from volunteering with United Way to serving on the board of her local homeowner's association. She feels very strongly that the representatives in Congress need to represent the people they serve and not beholden to special interests. |
